Interim Head of Finance / Financial Controller

6-Month Interim Contract | Day Rate | Lancashire

Jive Recruitment is supporting a Lancashire-based business with the urgent appointment of an experienced Interim Head of Finance / Financial Controller.

This is initially a six-month assignment, providing leadership and continuity across the finance function while the business reviews its longer-term structure. The role may develop into a permanent opportunity, either full-time or part-time. You’ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, support and develop a relatively new team, and work closely with the directors, board and wider commercial and operational teams. This is a hands-on role, so I’m looking for someone who is equally comfortable overseeing the bigger picture and getting into the detail when needed.

What you’ll be responsible for:

• Overseeing and supporting the finance team
• Finalising monthly management accounts and month-end close
• Balance sheet reconciliations
• Budgeting, forecasting and reforecasting
• Cash-flow reporting, monitoring and forecasting
• Payment runs and bank payment authorisation
• VAT and CIS
• Payroll and pensions oversight
• Working with commercial and operational teams around costings, stock and forecast accuracy
• Improving existing finance processes and controls
• Identifying opportunities to streamline systems and ways of working
• Supporting future finance systems/ERP improvements

What I’m looking for:

You’ll be a qualified finance professional with a strong all-round financial and management accounting background and previous experience taking ownership of a finance function. You’ll need to be confident working with senior stakeholders, managing competing priorities and providing clear financial information to support decision-making. Sage experience is required or strongly preferred, and experience of Sage X3 or implementing/upgrading an ERP system would be a real advantage. Previous manufacturing or another operationally focused environment would also be useful. Just as importantly, the business is looking for someone approachable, dependable and collaborative who can bring structure and direction to the team without overcomplicating things.

The contract:

The assignment is expected to run for an initial six months and is available on a daily-rate basis. The role will initially be office-based in Lancashire while you get to know the business, team and processes. Short-notice availability is important, as the business would like someone in place as soon as possible to allow for a handover. The daily rate is flexible depending on experience.
