Senior Purchase Ledger Clerk
Are you someone who thrives on getting the detail right and understands how purchase ledger plays a vital role in the wider finance function?
If you’re confident working with complex invoices (not just high volumes), enjoy taking ownership of your work, and want to be part of a well-structured and supportive team, this role could be a great fit for you.
A well-established business based in Lancaster is looking for a Senior Purchase Ledger Administrator to join their finance team. The role involves more than just invoice processing, you’ll have real responsibility, work closely with internal teams and suppliers, and play a key part in improving systems and processes.
What the role involves:
- Processing and coding complex supplier invoices, including correct VAT treatment
- Reconciling supplier statements and maintaining supplier records
- Managing supplier queries and building strong working relationships
- Running system checks to ensure data accuracy (e.g., between invoice systems and accounting software)
- Preparing and posting supplier payments
- Supporting with month-end activities such as accruals and invoice cut-off
- Reviewing and improving purchase ledger processes
- Providing guidance to the Purchase Ledger Administrator and supporting the wider finance team (e.g., credit card reconciliations, AR cover, cash allocations)
What I’m looking for:
- Experience in a purchase ledger/accounts payable role, ideally with some senior or supervisory responsibilities
- Strong systems knowledge – confident with Excel and able to learn new software
- Excellent attention to detail and confidence working through complex invoice queries
- A proactive, structured approach with clear communication skills
- Someone who enjoys problem-solving, process improvement, and working as part of a team
What’s in it for you?
You’ll receive a competitive salary of up to £30,000, along with 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays. There’s also a yearly bonus linked to company performance and a generous staff discount scheme.
While the role is primarily office-based, there’s flexibility around start and finish times, especially outside of month-end. Occasional remote working can also be arranged. You’ll also benefit from free on-site parking, teas and coffees provided, and a corporate discount at a local gym.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior-level purchase ledger role where your experience and attention to detail will be genuinely valued.
